DHAKA, Bangladesh - DHAKA, Bangladesh (CNN) -- Bangladeshi President Mohammad Zillur Rahman died Wednesday at a Singapore hospital, where he was being treated for a lung infection, according to state-run media in Dhaka.
He was 85.
Rahman was admitted to Mount Elisabeth Hospital on March 10.
Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy, meaning the role of the president is largely ceremonial. He is elected by the parliament, as opposed to the prime minister who is the elected in a general election.
Rahman was elected to the position in 2009.
