Chinese official: No proof to link debris to Malaysia Airlines jet missing for five days

BEIJING (AP) -- A senior Chinese aviation official says it cannot be confirmed that objects floating in the sea captured on Chinese satellite images are linked to a Malaysia Airlines jet missing for more than five days.

Li Jiaxiang, chief of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, told reporters Thursday that the authorities could not confirm that the three objects of varying sizes detected by Chinese satellites belong to the missing aircraft. They were spotted in the sea off the southern tip of Vietnam and east of Malaysia on Sunday morning.

The plane carrying 239 people went missing Saturday morning while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
