140 on board Nigeria flight that crashes

LAGOS, Nigeria -- A national emergency agency official says between 140 to 150 people were on board the Dana Air flight that crashed in Nigeria's largest city.

The official spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the press. He said they were trying to get an official manifest on the flight. Sometimes flights in Nigeria issue paper tickets and don't record all passengers via computer.

Iyiola Akande, the zonal coordinator for NEMA, says that colleagues on the ground said that 153 people were on board but he did not say how they knew.

A passenger plane traveling from Abuja to Lagos crashed into buildings in a neighborhood near the Lagos International Airport. The casualty figure was unknown as firefighters tried to contain the fires.
