A gunman fired several shots at a pair of police officers, hitting one, and held two hostages for nearly nine hours - but all came away from the standoff without serious injuries.
(WESH) Investigators said a 38-year-old man was shot and killed at a home near Orange City on Tuesday.
The shooter, identified as 68-year-old William Shope, shot and killed his son Adam Shope in a bedroom, authorities said.
"I just shot my son," he said on the 911 call. "I've got to go see if he's still alive," he said. "I can't breathe. He attacked me."
Deputies said the shooting may have been justified, but no decision has been made as to if charges will be filed until all the evidence can be reviewed.
