After Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the shopping holiday continues with Small Business Saturday.
American Express created Small Business Saturday four years ago to generate excitement after Black Friday and support "Main Street" stores.
According to a survey by the National Federation of Independent Businesses and American Express, 67% of businesses participating in today's event will offer discounts and 33% plan to give a reward, like a free gift to encourage people to shop local.
According to an article on FoxNews.com , several reasons to shop small businesses include reasons such as customers may get more personal service from the owner and the support helps the local economy and creates jobs for local businesses.
Last year, Americans spent more than five billion dollars on Small Business Saturday.
