BUNNELL, Fla. (AP) -- About 1,700 residents of a central Florida community are under a boil water alert following an apparent act of vandalism that also resulted in low water pressure.

Plantation Bay Homeowners Association manager Margie Hall says the incident affected the entire subdivision on the border of Flagler and Volusia counties.

Flagler County spokeswoman Julie Murphy tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that someone opened about 20 water spigots in a nearby undeveloped subdivision. The valves spilled about 400,000 gallons of treated water from a tank that serves Plantation Bay customers.

Flagler County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Troiano says deputies believe the valves were opened sometime Sunday. The culprits could face criminal felony mischief charges.

A reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
