University of Florida stabbing at Leigh Hall; Suspect escapes but later killed by police

Violence at Leigh Hall during spring break

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -  (AP) -- A person suspected in a stabbing Monday on the University of Florida campus was later shot and killed by Gainesville police.

The Gainesville Sun reports the incident took place at Leigh Hall.

University of Florida police spokesman Brad Barber says the attacker stabbed the man and then fled in a black Jeep.

Police said the suspect was driving in Gainesville and crashed his car.  He then fled into a shopping center where he was confronted by and fatally shot by Gainesville police.

Investigators said the victim, who is not a student at the university, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital.

Students at the university are on spring break this week.
