Two gators found in backyard of South Daytona residence

Neighbors didn't know they've been there for years

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - People in a Daytona neighborhood  were surprised to discover what their neighbors were keeping in the backyard!

Police say two large alligators were found in the backyard of a  home and neighbors just learned they've been there for years.

The owner does not have a license or permit to raise them.

There are caging and land requirements in the city, not to mention the potential danger, especially when you see what's right next door.

"There's the back of a church day care where there's children 500 feet away, where they play out here every day. Not that they would get out here and go over there, but there are two 7-foot alligators in this backyard as pets," said South Daytona police Lt. Dan Dietrich.

The owner is out of town. He could face misdemeanor charges for keeping the reptiles.
