Teen severs leg while attempting to hop on a train in Jacksonville

A teen in northeast Florida was seriously hurt after he tried to hop on a moving train late Saturday night.

Officials with Jacksonville's Sheriff's office say the teen was unsuccessful and he ended up getting his leg caught under the the train.

It was severed above the ankle.

One official explains why the teen was trying to hop on the train in the first place.

"He told the investigators that he was attempting to board the train to make curfew back to the Panama Youth Center, and he's been transported to a local hospital," Jacksonville Police Public Information Officer Shannon Hartley said.

There is no word on how the teen is doing now.
