(WESH/NBC) - A 34-year-old man is accused of stabbing his parents during a Thanksgiving celebration in Central Florida on Thursday.
A 76-year-old father was stabbed three times in the chest and the 72-year-old mother was stabbed once inside a home in Port Orange.
The father, Thomas J. Daugherty, was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where he was later listed in serious-to-critical condition.
The mother, Patsy Daugherty, was listed in serious condition at the same hospital.
Investigators said the parents told them their son, Edwin N. Daugherty, has mental-health issues.
He was reportedly outside waving deputies down when they responded to the scene.
Deputies said they recovered the knife in some bushes about a block away from the house.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said Daugherty faces two counts of attempted murder.
