Pilot escapes injury, no one on the ground hurt

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A small plane crashed in Pompano Beach Friday morning.

The sheriff's office says the plane went down in an alley between Northeast 3rd Avenue and Dixie Highway, just northwest of Pompano Air Park just before 6:23 a.m

According to the sheriff's office, the plane struck power lines causing an outage in the area. There was also a fuel spill that's being contained.

The 75-year-old pilot was the only person aboard the plane and was out of the aircraft and walking around when rescuers arrived, Pompano Beach spokeswoman Sandra King told the Sun Sentinel.

The pilot told fire rescue personnel that he has 35 years of flying experience, the Sentinel reported.

No one on the ground was injured.
