HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) -- A flamingo has been captured after police say it was spotted running through traffic in South Florida.

The Miami Herald reports that the incident happened Sunday evening in Hialeah.

Hialeah police spokesman Sgt. Carl Zogby says the flamingo escaped Hialeah Park, where there is a colony of the pink tropical birds, and ended up at an intersection.

Officer Jose Romero was on routine patrol when he saw the bird running through traffic and gave chase.

Zogby says that it took three officers to corral the scared bird. He says the officers rounded up the flamingo, using a traffic vest to cover the animal's eyes to help calm him down.

The flamingo, which wasn't hurt, was returned to its home.
