Plane crash at Melbourne International Airport kills three people

MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) -- Officials say three people have died following a single-engine plane crash at Melbourne International Airport.

The Cirrus SR22 was attempting to land Wednesday evening when it crashed off the end of a runway.

Florida Today ( http://on.flatoday.com/AEED8d ) reports that rescue crews searched the wooded area at the end of the runway for about an hour before they found the wreckage.

The bodies of 44-year-old Robert Kurrus Jr, 25-year-old Justin Gaines and 24-year-old James Franklin, all of Brevard County, were found in the wreckage of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
