Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher is warning voters not to turn over their absentee ballots to callers claiming to be from her office and volunteering to pick them up.
Bucher said Monday that two county voters have reported receiving phone calls from people alleging to work for the elections office. The callers offered to pick up the voters' absentee ballots and turn them in, Bucher said.
The elections office does not pick up absentee ballots from voters, Bucher said.
To be counted, absentee ballots must be delivered to the Supervisor of Elections main office at 240 S. Military Trail, west of West Palm Beach, by 7 p.m. on Election Day or to branch offices in Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach and Belle Glade by 5 p.m. Election Day.
"I don't know what the motivation is," Bucher said of the reported callers. "If they are portraying they are from the supervisor's office, I assume their motivation isn't positive."
