(WESH) Florida officials are trying to solve an alligator mystery on Ormond Beach.
A 4-foot gator was found in the water Tuesday.
"His mouth was already taped shut, so we're not sure how he got here," Beach Safety spokeswoman Tamara Maris said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission called in a trapper who pulled the gator out of the water and took it away.
Early this month, a 1 1/2-foot gator was found on the beach in Daytona Beach Shores. Its footprints were found in the sand walking away from the water.
Alligators are freshwater animals and don't tolerate salt water well.
Florida officials believe the reptile was dumped as a prank.
