ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- An Orange County Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot while responding to a car burglary call.
The shooting happened late Monday near Orlando.
Sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves says firefighters "made valiant efforts" to save the deputy. He was taken to a trauma center at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officials say the deputy attempted to question a suspect. The man shot the deputy. It was not clear whether there was an alteration before the shooting. The suspect fled and was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The deputy's name has not been released, but Sheriff Jerry L. Demings asked for prayers for the deputy's wife and three small children.
No further details were immediately available.
