TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is enjoying a double-digit lead over the entire Republican primary field in Florida, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
The poll shows Gingrich breezing by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. 35 percent of 509 respondents favored Gingrich compared to 22 percent for Romney.
No other Republican was in double digits.
"Former House Speak Newt Gingrich is no longer just the flavor of the month since his boomlet has stretched from November into December and voting begins in Iowa in less than four weeks," Said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
For President Barack Obama, a matchup with either Gingrich or Romney would be equally challenging. The poll shows a very tight race in Florida for Obama.
The survey of registered voters was taken between November 28 and December 5 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent.
