FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A motorcyclist died after colliding with a Fort Lauderdale Police unit and another vehicle near Davie Road on Saturday morning.
Around 2 am, a motorcycle and a marked Fort Lauderdale Police unit were traveling westbound on I-595 in the inside center lane when the motorcycle approached the rear of the marked unit, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Another vehicle was traveling in the outside lane when the motorcycle struck the back of the police unit with the front of the bike.
The impact caused the motorcyclist to eject from the bike and fall into the roadway, where he was hit by the other vehicle.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a helmet, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The westbound lanes of I-595 were closed for the investigation, but reopened at 6:30 am.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
