LAFAYETTE, La. - Missing Valrico teen Ashley Lyon and registered sex offender Steven Myers were found in Louisiana early Thursday morning. She had multiple stab wounds.
Just before 1:00, the Iberville Sheriff's Office in Louisiana notified Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office that Lyon, 16, and Myers, 41, were in custody.
Lyon was reported missing earlier this week and was suspected of traveling with Myers.
Because of national media attention, patrons at a truck stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana notified the Iberville Sheriff's Office when they recognized Myers and Lyon as they walked in.
Deputies arrived to find the pair in a Chevy 3500 flatbed pickup truck, and attempted a traffic stop.
Myers, who was driving the truck, refused to pull over, and deputies began a pursuit for about 40 miles.
Douglas Fremin was driving to work when he saw the chase. "I was just getting onto the exit when I saw all the police fly by right in front of me. There was cops flying by like crazy. They had about 50 cops."
During the pursuit, Myers reportedly struck four other vehicles. Deputies believe he was trying to create road blockage behind him.
Deputies managed to deploy multiple stop sticks and were successful in deflating the truck's tires. Myers continued driving on the rims, until the truck could no longer travel. "I thought maybe police had shot the tires," said Fremin, "because they were riding on two rims, and the back of the truck was on fire."
Once stopped, Myers exited the truck with a knife in his hand, yelling at the deputies to shoot him. Fremin said, "He wasn't bloody. He wasn't screaming. He just got out, and the first thing he said was 'Can you please shoot me.'"
Myers was apprehended and taken to a local hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he was treated for what's believed to be two self-inflicted stab wounds and K9 dog bites. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
Fremin said Lyon got right out of the truck. "She opened the door and she got out and she just put her hands up, and the cops arrested the guy and grabbed the girl."
Lyon was taken to a hospital in Lafayette where she is listed in critical condition.
The girl left her home at 4705 Water Lark Way around 4 p.m. on June 11. She is bi-polar and did not take her medications with her.
Myers is wanted for interference with child custody, attempted unlawful sexual activity with certain minors and traveling to meet a minor. Authorities in Lafayette will also charge him with attempted murder.
