Mayday call made 17 miles off Venice Beach, Florida

VENICE BEACH, Fla. - A search and rescue mission is happening Friday off the coast of Venice Beach after a mayday call Thursday night.

A man and woman requested help before losing communications the Coast Guard.  The call came in about 17 miles off the coast.

Crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla, Station Cortez, and the cutters Nantucket and Crocodile are searching.

Anyone with any information on the possible source of the mayday call is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center at 727-824-7506.

The Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket is a 110-foot patrol boat from St. Petersburg.  The Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile is an 87-foot coastal patrol boat from St. Petersburg.
