TAMPA, Fla. - TAMPA - Police are piecing together the mystery surrounding the death of a 4-year-old boy in Tampa.
According to Tampa police, a witness saw Marterrance Albury, 4, fall out of the back passenger side door of a green SUV on N. Florida Ave. on Sunday night around 9:45 p.m.
Marterrance landed on his head and was then run over by the back wheels of the vehicle. He later died at St. Joseph's Hospital.
One of the questions police have is whether the child fell out of the car, or if he was pushed.
Detectives say the child was supposed to be in the care of his 17-year-old brother. The teen walked up to an officer at the scene nearly 30 minutes after the child fell from the car and reported to officers that he couldn't find his brother.
Marterrance rolled out of the SUV in front of the apartment complex where they live.
The child's mother, Joantea Williams, 36, had been out with a friend when the incident occurred. She arrived home at 4 a.m. and was Baker acted after learning about the death of her son. She remains in the hospital.
Police continue to search for green Ford Expedition. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS or the Tampa Police Department at 813 231-6130.
