Man killed, off-duty police officer injured in shooting outside of popular Fort Lauderdale bar

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating a shooting incident that left an off-duty Fort Lauderdale Police officer critically injured and a 40-year-old man dead outside of a popular Fort Lauderdale bar Thursday night.

According to the sheriff's office, the veteran off-duty officer was leaving Maguire's Hill 16 at 535 North Andrews Avenue around 7:40 p.m. when he witnessed a domestic altercation between a man and  a woman in the parking lot.

During the incident, the off-duty officer exchanged gunfire with the male suspect. 

The man died at the scene. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition. 

The name of the officer and the name of the deceased 40-year-old male have not been released at this time.
