A photo shared on Facebook depicting a dog with duct tape wrapped tightly around its mouth spawned both outrage on social media and police investigations in both Connecticut and Florida.

Katharine Lamansky, 45, now faces animal charges in North Carolina in connection to the incident. ABC affiliate WFTV reports Lamansky was in Cary, N.C., when the photo was taken.

The picture was posted on Facebook by a profile with the name Katie Brown just before 10 a.m. Friday with the caption, "This is what happens when you don't shut up!!!"

Police said the woman's listed residence is South Daytona, Fla., but also said she had ties to Connecticut. Her Facebook page stated she attended Central Connecticut State University.

Following a barrage of calls from concerned animal lovers, Avon police in Connecticut investigated an address associated with the woman's family, but quickly determined the incident did not occur there.

Chief Mark Rinaldo said officers verified that the woman and the dog in question both reside in Florida.

"We've been utilizing all our resources towards identifying the woman and locating her," said South Daytona Police Department Chief Ron Wright.

"As soon as we can find out exactly what's happened and what is the extent of the abuse determines the amount of charges that will be filed, but rest assured, whatever legally we can do, we will do," said Wright.

Police said they can confiscate the dog if there are signs of abuse.

Lamansky couldn't be reached for comment.
