Joseph 'Shane' Robbins: Polk County deputy killed in Bomber Road crash

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - A Polk County deputy was killed in a single-vehicle crash late Friday morning. 

He's identified as 40-year-old Master Deputy Sheriff Joseph "Shane" Robbins. His marked Chevrolet Impala was found in a wooded area off to the north side of the westbound lane of Bomber Road.

A citizen heard the crash and called 911.

Paramedics and firefighters extricated Robbins from the car and he was taken to Winter haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Bomber Road was shut down from Spruce Road to U.S. 17.

Sheriff's deputies are seeking information about this crash. Any witnesses who may have heard or seen anything, even as insignificant as they think it may be, are strongly urged to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863-298-6200.
