WINDERMERE, Fla. - An Orange County deputy was killed early Tuesday morning while investigating a string of vehicle burglaries in a neighborhood near Windermere, according to an official with the Sheriff's Office.
He's identified as 34-year-old Jonathon Scott Pine.
After responding to reports of a suspicious incident , the deputy saw a man and attempted to question him. The man then shot the deputy before running off.
Deputies later found the suspect in the neighborhood, dead with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officials say it appears that deputy Pine never fired at the suspect.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry L. Demings said, "The citizens of Orange County lost a true hero who was tragically killed patrolling the streets of our community. I ask the community for their prayers for our fallen deputy's family which includes a wife and three small children.
