MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - (AP) -- A former University of Miami football player is in stable condition after a car crash on a Miami Beach highway.
Jackson Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday that JoJo Nicolas' condition was upgraded from critical. His family has asked for no more information to be released.
The Miami Herald reports that Hurricanes football coach Al Golden joined Nicolas' family and friends Tuesday at the hospital. Golden said Nicolas is "a big part of our U family and all of us are pulling for him."
Nicolas played for the Hurricanes from 2007 to 2011. In 2012, he briefly signed with the New York Giants as a rookie free agent.
The car Nicolas was driving crashed early Tuesday into the back of a tractor-trailer as he left South Beach.
