The giant eyeball that washed up in Pompano Beach last October made No. 1 on National Geographic's list of the 10 Weirdest Stories of 2012, beating out the discovery of a 750-legged millipede and a two-faced cat.
The grapefruit-sized eyeball was discovered by a man walking along the beach and inspired days of speculation about its source. Turns out it came from a large swordfish. "For being justifiably weird, gross, and mysterious all at the same time," National Geographic's editors wrote, "the giant eyeball is our weirdest story of 2012."
