Garnett Stokes takes the helm for Florida State University as interim president

(AP)- Florida State University is tapping Garnett Stokes as the school's interim president.

FSU trustees on Friday placed Stokes in charge while the school searches for a replacement to outgoing President Eric Barron.

Barron is leaving FSU to become president of Penn State University.

Stokes has been FSU provost and executive vice president for academic affairs since 2011. She will take over as interim president in April.

There is already widespread speculation about potential contenders for the permanent job.

Allan Bense, chairman of the FSU board of trustees, insisted on Friday that there is no "frontrunner" for the job.

The search committee, however, includes many politically connected members, including a former state Senate president, a state legislator and former FSU quarterback Drew Weatherford. Weatherford's brother is House speaker.
