MIAMI (AP) -- Florida Power & Light says it will delay construction plans for two proposed nuclear power plants at its Turkey Point site near Homestead, but the company still wants to charge customers in advance for the expansion.

The Miami Herald reports FPL filed a motion April 27 with the Florida Public Service Commission, seeking a waiver from a requirement that says it must first prove the project is "feasible."

City of Miami attorney Victoria filed a motion Thursday with the PSC, saying the company should be required to justify whether it is allowed to continue charging customers for the $20 billion expansion project that may be halted.

FPL told state officials that it will put a four-year pause on the plans while it deals with an underground saltwater plume.
