Florida woman accused of throwing puppy off second floor balcony

Charged with felony animal cruelty

LEHIGH ACRES — A Florida woman is accused of throwing a puppy off a second-floor balcony.

Cathy Sue Garrison, 52, of the 4100 block of 32nd Street Southwest in Lehigh Acres, was charged with felony animal cruelty. Bond was set at $1,500.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports:

Lee County Domestic Animal Services Chief Adam Leath was called by an emergency veterinarian who said a 3-month-old Catahoula puppy had been brought in by Aaron Reynaert, 49, and his brother, Ben Reynaert, 57. The puppy had an open fracture to its left femur.

The cost for the extensive surgery would be between $2,000 and $3,000. The brothers made a decision to euthanize the puppy.

Aaron Reynaert told deputies that about 9:15 p.m. he heard a loud yelp from the puppy and head the front door of the house slam shut. He ran to the yard and found the puppy. He asked Garrison what happened, but she refused to talk to him.

Only Aaron Reynaert and Garrison were at home when the incident occurred.

An investigation showed the puppy was thrown from a second-floor balcony, because “she was angry and was punishing the dog.”
