WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - New signs are being installed on the Florida Turnpike to help prevent wrong-way drivers.
Florida Highway Patrol will put up new flashing red signs that warn drivers if they are traveling in the wrong direction.
These signs will also:
1) Notify the highway patrol through an automatic email to respond to the area
2) Use radar and cameras to take pictures of the car
FHP said they will begin putting the signs up throughout the state starting this summer.
Right now, FHP is tracking areas on the Turnpike that have high nighttime traffic and a history of wrong- way crashes to determine where to place thee signs.
This new technology will tell police exactly what car they are looking for and what area to respond to instead of relying on 911 calls.
