Federal judge: Pumping farm water into Lake O violates Clean Water Act

In a ruling called "long overdue" by environmental groups, U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas in New York's Southern District ruled Friday the practice of pumping water from farm land into public water supplies - including Lake Okeechobee - is in violation of the Clean Water Act.

Earthjustice, which describes itself as a "nonprofit public interest law organization dedicated to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment," said the ruling is the proper conclusion to a legal battle that has been waged in courts since 2002.
