Exit 66's Bikini Parade attempts Guinness World Record this Saturday

As difficult as this is for us to accept, the Guinness world record for longest bikini parade does not belong to South Florida. It was not set in South Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach, Deerfield Beach or even Hallandale Beach. (OK, scratch that last one.) Nope, this glorious honor belongs to Panama City Beach. That's right, a beach on the Redneck Riviera holds this world record, and we do not.

This cannot stand. And if Fort Lauderdale's Exit 66 nightclub gets its way, it won't. This Saturday, bikinis in all shapes, sizes and colors will take center stage on Fort Lauderdale Beach when Exit 66 attempts to break Panama City Beach's record, which a Guinness representative confirmed was achieved this past March by 450 participants at an event organized by the city.

Exit 66 hopes its parade will put that one to shame, and plans to stretch it across one mile of Fort Lauderdale beach. Prior to the parade, participants will pass through an SPF prep station, where they each will receive a sun visor, UV-proof sunglasses, SPF 15 lip balm and a 1-ounce cup of sunscreen. They also will be given a bottle of Gatorade to stay hydrated.

Registration for the parade, which is being held in conjunction with UV Safety Month, will begin at 1 p.m. The parade will start at 4.

A pool party at Exit 66 will follow, with drink specials and tunes by DJ Jason Vernau (of South Beach nightclubs LIV, SET and Shore Club) and the venue's own DJs On Til Dawn. With any luck, everyone will be celebrating a new record, a new tan and a new appreciation for our superiority over Panama City Beach.
