UPDATE: According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, the Medical Examiner determined that Dominique Dawson died of a gunshot wound
GIFFORD, Fla.--Investigators with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office are working to determine how a Gifford man, whose body was found early Wednesday morning, was killed.
Deputies say they were called to the 3800 block of 44th Place in Gifford for reports of a shooting just before 6 a.m.
When they arrived, they found the body of 27-year-old Dominique Dawson outside of a house across the street from his home.
Sgt. Eric Flowers said when deputies found the body, there were no immediate signs of trauma or a gunshot wound.
Investigators still suspect foul play. "Often times, small caliber weapons do not leave large wounds," Flowers explained.
Neighbors say Dawson typically kept to himself in the neighborhood. "Nobody deserves to die, no matter what happened," said Sholanda Hill.
Flowers says this is at least the second violent incident on the street in less than a month.
On April 30, Flowers says a man was shot in the head, but survived.
"A lot of people around here have kids, so that's bad," Hill said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
The sheriff's office has not identified any suspects.
