BIG PINE KEY, Fla. -
A sheriff's deputy in the Florida Keys is facing multiple drug charges after allegedly buying fake painkillers from an undercover operative.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Jaime Miranda was on duty and in a marked patrol car when he met with the operative Saturday night in a Big Pine Key shopping center.
According to the sheriff's office, detectives later found the fake painkillers in Miranda's car along with other real prescription painkillers taken from his aunt and a pipe with marijuana residue.
Jail records show that Miranda was held without bond Sunday on various drug charges. It wasn't known if he was represented by an attorney.
Sheriff's office spokeswoman Becky Herrin says an investigation is pending. Miranda also has been suspended without pay. He was hired in 2008.
