Cold, wet weather means fewer love bugs for Florida residents

OCALA — Experts say cold weather is the likely reason Floridians are seeing fewer love bugs this year.

University of Florida Professor Norman Leppla told the Palm Beach Post on Sunday that unusually cold and wet weather this spring made it difficult for larva to survive.

He says the bugs spend most of their lives as larva beneath decaying vegetation and need ideal conditions to thrive.

The bugs travel in pairs and normally inundate the state during the month of May.
