FT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A call to law enforcement in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month resulted in the confiscation of 3,600 pounds of cocaine.
The US Customs and Border Protection Office along with a Fort Lauderdale Marine Unit responded to a call from a good Samaritan who reported a capsized boat that he thought contained drugs. The incident was reported around 4:30 pm on July 9th.
The citizen told the investigators that he had been diving near the vessel and recovered a package containing numerous kilos of cocaine.
Two boats from the Coast Guard station Fort Lauderdale assisted in recovering the sinking boat. Federal agents found 41 bales of cocaine worth an estimated $117,000,000 on the sinking boat.
The incident is now under investigation by sate and federal law enforcement agencies,
