Coast Guard urges boaters take weather precautions

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard is encouraging boaters to take precautions as a storm front pushes across north and central Florida.

High winds, big surf and rip currents are expected throughout the region into Wednesday night.

The Coast Guard is advising boaters to avoid going offshore and to make sure their vessels are secured to moorings with extra lines.

The agency is also encouraging boat owners to secure any loose equipment including life jackets, paddles or buoys that could be picked up in heavy winds.
