Central Florida woman Priti Mahalanobis says psychic Peaches Stevens duped her out of $136,000

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A central Florida woman with mounting personal problems turned to a psychic who allegedly duped her out of $136,000 over a seven month period, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel .

Priti Mahalanobis said she went to a meditation and healing center in Windermere after reading an ad for a $20 psychic reading.

The purported psychic, who goes by the names of Peaches Stevens and Ms. Starr, told Mahalanobis that her family was cursed, according to the report.

Stevens said she could help removed the curse and told Mahalanobis to perform rituals, open credit card accounts and bring her thousands in cash and jewelry.

Seven months and $135,899 later, Mahalanobis realized she had been taken and hired a private detective.

Stevens was arrested earlier this month and later released on bail. She had no comment.

As a result of her financial problems, Mahanabolis lost her business.  She admits to felling foolish, but said she wanted to get the word out to warn others about what can happen.
