Tampa area woman charged in death of her granddaughter
Tampa police say they have charged Carida Lissettes Cobb with first-degree murder in the death of her 3-year-old granddaughter, Yanelli Vasquez.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Tampa police say they have charged a woman with first-degree murder in the death of her 3-year-old granddaughter.
Yanelli Vasquez died Dec. 13. Police say that before autopsy results were released, Carida Lissettes Cobb attempted suicide by taking a large amount of pills.
Police arrested Cobb on Friday night after she was released from a hospital. According to a statement Saturday from police, Cobb's account of the girl's death did not match the autopsy results.
Cobb was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She was held without bond Saturday. Hillsborough County jail records did not show whether she had an attorney.
The Tampa Bay Times reports ( http://bit.ly/1a0sUm8 ) that according to police, the girl was found in a bathtub and Yanelli "appeared to have been beaten and drowned."
