Broward County townhouse fire leaves family homeless and kills pet dog

Roads now open

An eight-year-old boy is being treated for smoke inhalation after escaping a townhouse fire Sunday morning, according to Dani Moschella with the Broward County Sheriff's Office. He is reportedly in good condition.

Flames and smoke were visible on three sides of the townhouse when Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the residential structure fire in Cooper City shortly after 8 a.m., says Moschella.

Two adults and four children safely evacuated the building. However, the family lost their pet dog in the fire, says Moschella.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the townhouse was destroyed and is deemed uninhabitable.

Six townhouses in total were evacuated. Two are being vented.

Street closures were initially set up but now all roads are clear.
