WESTON, Fla. - A Broward County sheriff's deputy was injured in a hit-and-run crash that led to a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.
Authorities said the chase began when a deputy on a motorcycle pulled over a motorcyclist in Weston at about 9:40 a.m.
When the deputy went up to talk to the motorcyclist, the person fled, injuring the deputy, according to BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
NBC 6 in Miami reported the chase ended when the motorcyclist attempted to make a U-turn under the Florida Turnpike overpass at Okeechobee Road, hitting an unmarked BSO vehicle and causing him to crash into a Miami-Dade Police cruiser, according to Concepcion.
The motorcyclist serious injuries and was transported to Ryder Trauma Center.
The deputy hit in the crash that sparked the chase was taken to Cleveland Clinic with minor injuries.
