(WBBH/NBC) A Southwest Florida boy will have quite the story to tell for years to come after an alligator bit him Monday.

Luckily for the Lehigh Acres child, it was just a baby gator and the bite wasn't severe.

The 10-year-old was bitten in his backyard while playing with friends, reported WBBH-TV.

"I was walking in the water," said Bobby Golio, the victim.

Bobby and the boys were playing near a canal that is typically bone dry. But on Monday after the storms, they found more than just water.

"All of a sudden, we hear Bobby scream," said Jesse, Bobby's 9-year-old friend.

Bobby thinks the baby gator was most likely only protecting its newfound home.

"'You'll never believe what just happened to me' I said, 'OK, what?' 'I got bit by an alligator,'" said Bobby's father, James Golio.

He was just glad no was else was hurt, or at least, hurt that bad.

"We washed the wound out really good because there's a lot of bacteria in alligator's mouth," said Bobby.

The boys said they've learned their lesson, and they won't be playing in any canals anytime soon.

"Pretty shocking, not something you expect to happen to your kid when he is going out back to play," said James Golio.
