Animal Services in Pasco County are investigating a case of a dog that attacked a 6-year-old boy on Sunday.

Christopher Ohrmund was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. He suffered more than 28 puncture wounds to his leg. His mother, Kendra Smith, said her son was released from the hospital Tuesday evening.

She said her son wanted to play with his scooter, when the attack happened. According to authorities, witnesses said the attack happened on the street.

Smith said a family friend was able to get the dog off Ohrmund.

“I was screaming and I said I was too young to die,” Ohrmund said.

The owner of the dog was out of town Sunday. His grandmother was taking care of the dog that afternoon. Off camera, she told WFTS-TV Wednesday evening, she does not know how the dog escaped the backyard. She said they have several stones, holding the doors together, but investigators said the fence doesn’t have a lock.

“It was horrific. It was really scary. He kept crying that he thought he was going to die,” Smith said.

According to Animal Services, the owner of the dog received a ticket for failure to obtain a license and the grandmother of the owner, received a citation for failure to prevent the vicious behavior.

“I just don’t want there to be a next time,” Smith said.

The owner of the dog said he does not believe his dog is vicious. The breed of the dog has not been released.

Currently, the dog is under home quarantine until May 18. According to Animal Services, they are still investigating the case.
