TAMPA, Fla. - A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son.
Austin Hamilton was watching the boy at Motel 6 in East Fowler in Tampa. He called 911, stating that the child was having trouble breathing.
Medics arrived on scene and attempted to revive the child and was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the 1-year-old later died.
Initially Hamilton said he did not hit or punish the infant, but during a second round of questioning police say he confessed.
Hamilton told officers that after the child urinated on the floor he hit the infant with all over with a leather belt. Hamilton also said he accidently dropped the child on his head during the altercation.
Hamilton is currently being held on on-bond at the Hillsborough County Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault and first-degree murder.
