Annual 'drag race' on Duval Street at Key West's Conch Republic Independence Celebration

There was a fierce competition in the Florida Keys this weekend as female impersonators put their best foot or their best stiletto forward in an annual drag race.

Drag queens competed in time trials that included an obstacle course of car tires and hurdles, followed by riding in shopping carts down Duval Street - that's the city's "main drag."

The drag race was part of the island's annual Conch Republic Independence Celebration.

The ten day festival commemorates the keys' 1982 secession from the United States.
