Adonis Ortiz made national headlines in December when doctors successfully performed a multiple transplant procedure on the 3-year-old boy. Now, after months of medical care in Miami, he is finally back at his Tampa home.
The transplant procedure replaced Adonis' stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine and large intestine.
Adonis' mother, Aracelis Ortiz, said Adonis is doing well, but doctors still want to see his weight go up. He is not eating yet, and has to be fed milk through a tube routed directly into his body.
Checks on his progress by doctors require weekly trips to Miami.
Aracelis has still not met the family who donated the organs for the transplant. She has been told they live in South Carolina, but she will not know any more information about them until several more months have passed.
"I would love to send them pictures, and say, 'Thank you,'" she said.
