A South Florida father has been arrested for allegedly pushing his son out of his vehicle and not reporting him missing.
Aage Jorgensen, 16, was last seen on Dec. 18 at American Heritage School in Plantation where he attends school. After winter break, he didn't return.
"We were worried about him. We thought maybe he was sick, and we didn't get returned phone calls from the father. On Friday of that week, we received a letter from the father saying he was withdrawing him from school," said Principal Elise Blum, American Heritage School.
Plantation Police were contacted by Hawk's Landing security on Jan. 9, in reference to Aage's father, Bruce Jorgensen, dropping off fliers in an attempt to locate his son.
Officers made contact with Bruce, who was uncooperative and did not want to make an official police report. He told investigators he kicked his son out of his car on Dec. 27 for being rude. Bruce claimed it happened along Northwest 136th Avenue and that he hasn't seen his son since.
"He didn't really give us any information. Didn't want to report his child missing," said Det. Philip Toman with Plantation Police.
On Jan. 26, Bruce was arrested at Miami International Airport for unlawful desertion of a child. Police learned he purchased a one-way ticket to New Zealand. He was taken into custody on an arrest warrant. He's being held with no bond.
The FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and Miami-Dade Police worked together with the Plantation Police Department in the apprehension of Bruce.
As of Jan. 27, Aage is still missing. Police said foul play is not suspected, but investigators are concerned for his safety and want to reassure him he's not in trouble.
"You're not alone, Aage, and we're all here and we care about you. We want you to come home and we'll all do whatever we can to help you and make you feel safe," Blum said.
Aage is a white male, 5'9" and 140 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a peach-colored Adidas T-shirt, white cargo shorts and Scott slippers.
At Aage's Plantation home, there are three notes taped to the window with messages for him about where he can find a key and numbers to call.
