A Tri-Rail train and tractor trailer collided Friday afternoon in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A Tri-Rail train and tractor trailer collided Friday afternoon in Pompano Beach.

It happened at the Atlantic Boulevard crossing around 4:10 p.m.

The car at the front of the northbound train sustained heavy damage.

Tri-rail is not sure if the impact threw the train off the tracks.

Tri-Rail says that the crash will “definitely impact train service beyond the train that was in the accident.”

Passengers traveling south from Palm Beach County can expect to be stopped in Deerfield Beach. Tri-Rail says they will be driven to the Cypress Creek train stop. Tri-Rail urges you to take alternative transportation if possible.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported one patient from the train to the hospital with minor injuries, wsvn.com reports. It says the semi driver was not hurt.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
