GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A woman and her daughter escaped major injury when a tree fell onto their apartment during a thunderstorm.
Gainesville Fire Rescue District Chief Michael Cowart says they were in a second floor unit at the Reserve at Kanapaha apartments when a massive oak tree toppled onto the building Sunday evening.
The Gainesville Sun reports the pair was trapped in the apartment. Seven people in the apartment downstairs managed to get out without injury.
Firefighters were able to get the girl onto a ladder and help her to the ground. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
